What is the escalator next step plan?

Escalators are starting to Plug Into Better Machines. Green escalators are being introduced to more and more places. Does this mean that they have simply been painted green? Although I do like the sound of that, in this case it means escalators have a sensor and start moving when some one is actually on them as opposed to needlessly running all the time.

We should all Walk the Walk and take the stairs, but some escalators are crazy long. Angel tube station in London sees commuters ride on the longest escalator is Western Europe. It has a vertical rise of 27.4m (90ft) and a length of 60m (197ft).  And some of the longest escalators in the world can have over 700 steps! Energy efficient escalators are definitely a good idea for the times you have an escalator of such length ahead of you without the energy to match it.
